I take the PATH train everyday. It is convenient, fast and reliable. But no one understands the map the first time they look at it.
Literally, every single time I take the train on the weekend I find myself helping someone in my car. And there are 8 or 9 cars on the train. And probably more than 200 round trip departures during the weekend. So, as a rough estimate, every weekend about a million people are totally lost out of their mind.
The first thing they need to do, is make the weekend part of the map the same size as the weekday part. Currently, the weekend part is a minuscule box next to the larger weekday part. If anything, they should make the weekend part bigger because during the week there are more commuters who know what the fudge they are doing and during the weekend there are a bunch of tourists.
I also think they need to change the whole way they diagram it. So I made this map. No, it's not pretty. I need a graphic designer for that. But it does make it simpler than the one now.
